How to Roll a Blunt: A Step-by-Step Guide to Getting Your Next Buzz

how to roll a blunt

At the risk of overstating or exaggerating, there are very few things that compare to the feeling of taking a long, deep drag of a well-rolled blunt.

Apart from the art of the act itself, it has a way of sending you to an otherworldly plane, freeing you from all the worries of this one.

However, rolling up a classic blunt is not quite as straightforward as it seems. It takes quite a bit of skill to pull it off as there’s always the possibility that you could go wrong while doing it.

Fortunately, if you are a true stoner, regardless of how many times you make mistakes, you still get to smoke all of them. There’s really no going wrong with the blunt.

What makes a blunt a blunt?

As a beginner, you might be confused when you hear that there’s a difference between blunts, joints, cigars, and all of that. Regardless, there actually is.

A blunt is essentially a hollowed-out cigar. That is, you get a cigar, empty it of its tobacco leaves and then fill up the hollowed-out cigar with grounded marijuana leaves.

This mixture of cannabis and a slight dash of tobacco that was in the cigar wrap before creates an added buzz that’s only a few more drags shy of heavenly.

What’s a true blunt?

For a blunt to qualify as a true blunt, it has to have some characteristics.

First of all, it is rolled with real tobacco paper or tobacco leaves. As such, the color is pretty much always brown, regardless of the shade. Any other color is fine, plus it’s not like it affects the quality of the buzz that comes from the cannabis itself.

However, if we throw away the cultural relevance of the little things like color, exterior, etc. there’s not much of a point to it anymore. Don’t you think?

How do you roll a blunt?

As stated earlier, you need to properly learn how to roll a blunt to do it right. In this article, we have taken our time to give you a breakdown of the entire process in six quick steps.

Before getting you started, you need to get a few supplies ready:

  • Your most preferred cannabis strain. No point in going through all that trouble if you don’t absolutely love it.
  • Tobacco leaves/a cigar
  • A cigarillo
  • A grinder
  • Blade or knife

Now, without further ado, dear stoner, here is how to roll a blunt in 6 steps:

1) Grind the cannabis

This part is pretty much the most essential. There’s no blunt without the most crucial ingredient – weed. As such, you need to get your pot and grind it properly. You can either use your hands or use a weed grinder. However, most stoners prefer to use their hands. The cannabis burns a bit longer when it’s not too finely crushed.

2) Prepare your wrap

This is where you’ll put your cannabis. There are places you could get an empty wrap, online and offline. However, if you prefer to do it the old fashioned way, you’ll be using a cigar here.

The first step is to use your blade to cut the wrap vertically. You have to be careful at this point, so you don’t ruin the wrap itself. Alternatively, if you’re skilled enough, you can just use your fingers to split it in the middle.

Afterward, empty it out. If you want to smoke a spliff, you can save it for later. However, if cannabis is your only love, you can choose to throw out the contents of the cigar.

3) Moisturize the wrap properly

This part is super important. Earlier, we said that blunt wraps are mostly just tobacco leaves. Most of the time they’re dry and are prone to cracking.

If you do not moisturize them properly, there’s a chance that you’ll ruin the entire wrap, and nobody wants that. To moisturize the wrap, you can use your saliva. However, if you are rolling it for someone else, you might want a more hygienic method.

Simply use your fingertip to apply a droplet of water to the blunt wrap. That way, you can be sure that it isn’t too dry to serve its purpose.

4) Fill up the wrapper

At this point, you need your cigarillo and your ground cannabis. Pour in your cannabis into the split, moisturized wrap. One or two grams should be enough if you are smoking alone, and you don’t want too much.

However, if you’re a stoner with more experience than the average or you’re going to be sharing all of that natural goodness, then you can fit in a bit more into your blunt. Just be careful not to overdo it, so you don’t mess it all up.

5) Roll it up

After filling it up with a comfortable amount of cannabis, the next step for you is to roll it up.

Put the wrapper between your fingers while rolling it up so you can smoothen out any unevenness in it. After rolling the blunt, make sure that you tuck the wrapper beneath itself. The edge that is left exposed should be wetted and then used to cover the one beneath.

You have to apply extra caution here. If your wrapper isn’t well-moisturized, you’ll crack it. While it is better not to, if you accidentally crack it, you can use some rolling paper’s gummy adhesive to fix that problem.

6) Bake your blunt

After successfully rolling up your blunt, you must bake it. This helps you to seal the entire thing such that you’ll have an even burn while smoking.

All you have to do here is move a lighter back and forth along the length of the blunt. Don’t forget the edges either.

While sealing the blunt, you mustn’t put the lighter too close. You don’t want the whole thing to catch fire. You just want the heat to bake it.

In conclusion

Now that you know how to roll a blunt, all that’s left for you is to smoke this beauty. If you want to smoke it with a couple of friends, there’s no harm there either. Just don’t overdo it.
