It reaches a point where even the most red-eyed stoner must admit that their pipe or bong has gotten grimy to the point it needs immediate cleaning.
That time could even be now – you’re seriously craving another smoke, but your bong is far from transparent, and every hit scrapes your throat. Yup, time to clean, buddy.
While pipe cleaning isn’t on the priority list for many smokers, it’s a pretty quick and easy endeavor that’s going to give quality sesh every time you blaze.
That’s why we’ve come up with a simple guide to help you keep your smoking apparatus clean in less than 10 minutes.
Why is it Important to Keep your Smoking Accessories Clean?
There are many reasons why you should always keep your smoking accessories clean and shiny. Aesthetics tops the list, especially with regards to the glass.
I mean, what’s the point of buying a sparkly glass bong only to leave it stained with ash and tar to the point it looks old and rusty? Don’t allow this to happen. Respect the beauty of your gear.
Frequent cleaning of your pipes and bongs also means you’ll get to enjoy the best tasting hits. If you know the extent to which growers go to produce the best quality marijuana strains, you wouldn’t want to waste any of that skill by using a dirty pipe. With tar and resin out of the way, you’ll be getting truly exquisite tastes.
Finally, a dirty pipe or bong won’t just ruin the quality of your weed; it will also irritate your throat. Clean gear gives you a pleasantly smooth smoking experience with fresh and buttery hints. The same can’t be said about a pipe or bong filled with tar and resin.
How Often Should You Clean Your Smoking Gear?
Well, this mostly depends on how frequently you use them. If you smoke daily, tar and resin will build up much faster than if you only hit the bong once or twice a week.
That said, leaving them dirty because you don’t use them as much isn’t prudent either. The more frequently you clean them, the more you’ll enjoy cleaner hits.
It’s recommended that you clean your bong daily and your pipes and vapes weekly. Simply give your bong a quick rinse with soapy water or plain water after each blaze to flush out any resins and tar before they build up and form a mess.
Of course, after a while, the buildup will be more severe, so you should give it a thorough clean every time you notice it needs one.
What Material is Your Smoking Gear Made of?
Every material requires a different cleaning method.
For instance, you risk damaging glass if you boil it in hot water, and risk ruining your wooden bongs if you use the wrong cleaning agents.
Below we explain how you should clean each equipment.
Glass & Metal
As mentioned, equipment made of glass is extremely delicate. Even though they look so pretty, they are the riskiest of them all.
The best way to wash glass pipes and bongs are to use alcohol or non-alcohol methods and avoid any boiling technique. Metal pipes, however, are safe to boil.
Wooden pieces, on the other hand, can be boiled in water, but using the wrong chemicals can damage them. For instance, alcohol can discolor wood and leave behind an unsightly residue. The best way to rinse wood is by using soft agents, such as vinegar.
Silicone gear is the easiest to clean. It withstands both heat and cold and can be cleaned using pretty much anything. You’re safe to experiment with any cleaning agent.
