How To Make Marijuana Butter?

Most people perceive cannabis as nothing more than a plant popular for its hallucinogenic properties. However, there are numerous ways we can use it to improve our health.

For example, in the last decade, an increased number of countries have started recommending cannabis for its medicinal purposes. From its ability to relieve stress to its impact on pain, there are lots of reasons why you should consider using it.

One of the things that are often omitted is that marijuana can be used as an edible. You’ve probably heard of cannabis brownies, but have you heard that you can also make butter from marijuana?

The best thing yet, as weed becomes more accepted, you will be able to buy marijuana online and use it for various delicious recipes. Still, it’s best to learn more about your local state laws before you embark on such an endeavor.

Here is a full article about marijuana butter (also known as cannabutter), how to prepare it, and what kind of side-effects you can expect. Read on!

What is marijuana butter?

You don’t have to be a culinary master to determine that cannabutter is a butter made from marijuana. With it, you can make various impressive treats, such as cookies and brownies.

While making your own marijuana butter may seem a bit redundant, this is a great option for all those who love to experiment in the kitchen and try new stuff.

While it is edible, it will have an impact on your mind. This is why you need to consider what kind of high you want to get when using marijuana butter. Needless to say, you shouldn’t give cookies made of this plant to young kids and pregnant women.

The two main components THC and CBD

There are two main components of cannabinoids known as cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol.

Tetrahydrocannabinol is what we otherwise refer to THC. It is a psychoactive substance and the main reason why we get high when using marijuana. On the other hand, cannabidiol or CBD doesn’t have such an effect.

Luckily, there is an option of making butter without THC. So, marijuana butter can be completely safe if you take right precautionary measures.

What can I expect from cannabis butter? What are its benefits?

Besides the fact it will change the taste of your regular, boring butter, there are lots of other things to note regarding cannabutter.

As already mentioned, this plant can help with various medication conditions. When used as an edible, there is also a chance that it will provide some sort of relief, especially to those who are suffering from insomnia or are stressed.

In the last 10 years, there is more and more research exploring cannabis as a cancer-treating plant. So, why are people opting for this plant?

Well, the whole cancer treatment can be really arduous, especially when we’re talking about chemotherapy. Nausea, pain, and vomiting are commonplace, and with marijuana, we have a new, more natural alternative that would help us deal with all these issues.

Although you might think that cannabis is a new drug for treating these symptoms, there are records of marijuana being used for vomiting and nausea throughout history.

Furthermore, its beneficial impact on nausea was one of the first things that scientists discovered back in the day. Marijuana has the ability to impact various bodily processes affecting your mood, memory, and appetite. In fact, if you ever smoked marijuana, you probably know what we’re talking about.

But, although all of this seems very nice, a patient suffering from cancer shouldn’t use cannabis on their own volition. Instead, there should be medical marijuana doctors guiding them.

Marijuana can lead to some side effects if used improperly or in excessive quantities. You always have to remember that cannabis is used as a supplemental drug, and it shouldn’t be used as a recreational drug. When used for cannabutter, it provides an alternative to cannabis that is smoked.

Marijuana is also popular among people who are suffering from insomnia. It is one of its most efficient medical uses. THC will do the job very well, but it can be combined with CBD as well.

It is really hard to tell how marijuana impacts our sleep. At this point, there is limited research that would teach us about underlying factors. However, it definitely works for insomnia.

You will have to be careful not to use excessive quantities of cannabis. If you overdo it, there is a chance you will become dependent on it for sleep. This is why it needs to be used sporadically, only when you’re really tired and have no other way of getting sleep.

How to make a marijuana butter: A Step by step guide

You might think that marijuana butter is hard to come by.

However, due to the fact that more and more states allow cannabis trade, it is possible to find it in various online stores. In fact, it is one of the most popular cannabis-related products on the global market.

Still, a lot of people prefer making it at their home. Here is how to do it:

  • Start with decarboxylation

What most people don’t understand is that you need to bake marijuana before you can use it. This is a type of processing. When used raw, a user is exposed to a high amount of THC and CBDA. You don’t want to consume high quantities of these substances as they will get you high. Instead, you will need to neutralize them through heating.

You will simply need to preheat your own to about 240 degrees Fahrenheit (or 115 degrees Celsius) and place your marijuana within. The whole heating process lasts for about 30 – 40 minutes. However, if you’re using cannabis that hasn’t been previously dried, you will need 20 minutes more.

It is necessary to rotate your cannabis, so it doesn’t get burned. You can easily notice a change in color as it gets more heated. While the temperature of 240 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal, you shouldn’t overdo it. Otherwise, there is a good chance you will eliminate the flavor and the smell which make cannabutter so specific. Extreme temperatures will also remove the medicinal effect.

  • Cooking marijuana on a stovetop

Once you’ve finished the first step, you are able to start cooking cannabis on the stove. You will need 2 larger cups of water, half an ounce of decarboxylated cannabis, 2 sticks of butter, 1 saucepan, 1 wooden spoon, 2 cheese cloths, and 1 medium container. You need to start by boiling water. However, don’t use excessively high temperatures.

Once the water has boiled over, you will need to add butter into the saucepan. Leave the butter until it melts with occasional stirring. When it’s ready, you can place marijuana into the pan. Cover it with a lid, and leave it be for approximately 3 to 4 hours. If you’ve used too high of a temperature, there is a chance your marijuana will get burned (as the pan will be too warm).

Every 20 to 30 minutes, you will have to stir the mixture. When it becomes thick, it will be ready for the next step. You will have to place 2 cheesecloths over the container, pour mixture onto the cheesecloth, and allow it to seep through. When you’ve done this, let it cool off for 30 to 60 minutes.

Next, you will have to put the bowl with the butter into the refrigerator. When a layer appears on the top, the butter will be ready for processing. Just scrape it from the bowl and put it in a new container. Then, leave it in the refrigerator and use it at your convenience.

If you’re uncertain about something, or you’re afraid to mess things up, you can mix marijuana butter with the regular butter. That way, even if you make a mistake, you won’t lose too much money or get too high. Of course, there are people who prefer having THC in their cannabis butter so they can experience psychoactive effects.

  • Potential side effects

Due to the nature of marijuana, there are potential side effects which you might encounter. Perhaps the biggest issue is finding just the right amount of THC. Unlike your regular pot, which is prepared in advance, there is a good chance THC concentration will vary within edibles.

There are several reasons for this, so you will have to be very careful. You will also have to keep in mind that marijuana butter (as well as some other edibles), will make you high for a longer period of time. This happens because your body differently metabolizes edibles compared to smoked substances.

For example, you might notice the first effects after 90 minutes, and they can reach their peak after 4 hours! As a result, it is really hard to control the highs, so if you really want to use cannabis butter in such a way, we suggest that you remain home during that day.

One big issue with cannabutter is overconsumption. Given that we use it for candies, people often consume too much marijuana as they like the taste of cookies. If you overdo it, you can experience side effects such as sleepiness, extreme paranoia, altered state of mind, hallucinations, delusions, etc. Lastly, make sure to properly store your marijuana butter edibles as they are not suitable for kids.

Cannabutter is a really interesting product. No matter what, try to go easy with it. There is a good chance you will mess up the recipe first time around.

So, you will have to be very patient when preparing it. Even if things don’t go your way, don’t give up on it. You can try and make it once again at a later date, as it has a really interesting and unique flavor.
